Are Kanuda pillows HSA/FSA eligible?

Most Kanuda pillows, pillowcases and traction devices can be paid for with HSA or FSA funds through Truemed if you qualify. Eligibility is determined per person rather than per product. A licensed provider in Truemed's network reviews a short health intake and issues a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) when a cervical support pillow is appropriate for your situation. Kanuda does not determine eligibility and cannot issue an LMN.

How does the Truemed process work?

1. Add the Kanuda product to the cart and choose the HSA/FSA option at checkout.
2. Complete a short clinical intake form. An independent licensed provider reviews your responses. No in-person visit is required.
3. If you qualify, an LMN is issued to your Truemed account and you pay with your HSA or FSA card.

Truemed states that 99.8% of LMNs are issued within 48 hours. If you already paid with a personal card, keep your LMN and your receipt together and submit both to your plan administrator for reimbursement.

Which Kanuda products can be purchased with HSA/FSA funds?

All Kanuda cervical pillows are enrolled with Truemed, with these exceptions:

• Spine Nap
• Mulberry pillowcases
• Checkout+ (Return/Exchange Insurance)

If the HSA/FSA option does not appear at checkout for an item, that item is not enrolled.

Which account types work?

HSA, FSA, and HRA funds can be applied to a cervical pillow purchase with an LMN. Limited-purpose FSAs (LPFSA) and dependent care FSAs (DCFSA) cannot be used, since those accounts are restricted to dental and vision expenses and to childcare expenses respectively.

What is a cervical pillow?

A cervical pillow uses a contoured profile rather than a flat one, with a raised section that supports the neck and a lower cradle that the back of the head settles into. The intent is to hold the head, neck, and upper spine in alignment through the night instead of letting the neck fall into flexion or extension.

Kanuda pillows were developed by a Korean physical therapist and are built around the natural C-curve of the cervical spine. Each model pairs a specific neck height with a specific head contour depth, so the right fit depends on the shape of your head and the length of your neck rather than on which model has the most support. They are made for back and side sleepers and use firmer foam than a conventional pillow so the contour holds its shape under load.

Can I use my own doctor instead of Truemed?

Yes. If your physician provides an LMN for a cervical support pillow, you can pay with a personal card and submit that letter along with your Kanuda receipt directly to your plan administrator. The letter should identify your condition, state why a cervical pillow is being recommended, and give an expected duration of use.
